I watched the “Woodsman” production in theaters last summer. My first impressions of the show, I thought the “Woodsman” was very appealing visually and emotionally. I enjoyed each character and the story being told. I loved viewing and analyzing each of the puppets’ appearances, roles within the show, and manipulation techniques! I found all the puppets to be believable and utilized very well. The Tin Man was probably the most interesting concept of the show to me. The way the puppet is slowly pieced together throughout the runtime, is really well done. I also loved the music and themes of the story. The choices of making these characters puppets was genius to convey the story and bring a sense of emotion to the show. If the puppets were replaced with human actors, it would not have the same impact. Overall, the “Woodsman” puppets were phenomenal and brought to life seamlessly.
Blog #1 Looking Forward
Hello everyone, I’m Walter Beazley, I am a freshman in college at UMW. Enjoying life and looking forward to the future. These days I can’t help but ponder on the notion that I’m actually in college now, and that my childhood is officially over. Thinking back to my high school days, things were fun because everything felt easy and simple, while this year feels complicated and messy. I think it’s because this year is like a big step into becoming an adult in many ways. I feel like this year more than ever I’m changing as a person, learning new skills and hobbies. And learning how to apply them to new situations that I may encounter during my years here at UMW. Although highschool was fun, I was extremely excited to move on and truly test myself. Adapting to college may be hard but honestly saying goodbye to my friends and family was even harder. Nevertheless I must keep going, and looking forward. Of course I’ll always value my childhood, and continuously wish I could go back to those good times. But now, this year, I feel like I’m truly moving on from my past. Rather than wishing I could go back in time, I am appreciating those times of my life and acknowledging the impact they had on me. Being able to put them aside as a crucial memory of who I was and who I’m trying to become. My mission in college is to keep moving forward, and to simply believe in myself. And to look at my past as a stepping stone for what’s to come!
